Kimberly Lackey, Senior Director of Services, Paraquad presents Making Independence AccessibleÂ
Around 61 million people (nearly one in four) in the United States live with some disability. Society tends to exclude people with disabilities from social relationships, community participation, leisure activities, and employment. Community integration for people with disabilities seeks to remedy these disconnects by creating inclusive, diverse societies. Paraquad  empowers people with disabilities to increase their independence through choice and opportunity through their nonprofit mission. Founded in St. Louis in 1970 by Max Starkloff, it is one of the oldest Centers for Independent Living in the country.
Paraquad Specializes in Making Independence Accessible
As part of VOYCE’s Community Education Series, we were joined by Kimberly Lackey, Senior Director of Programs at Paraquad. Ms. Lackey gave an insightful presentation on the important role that the organization plays in supporting the many complex needs of those living with disabilities in the St. Louis area.
Paraquad envisions an integrated society free of barriers and discrimination where disability is viewed as a natural part of human diversity.
